About the NIN Drive
05/05/2010 Update: Dassarri: Hello all!I haven't posted anything in a long while, in part because I've been so actively busy with all things NIN Drive. Bad news for my free time, but hopefully good news for all of you! The initial NIN Drive is just about ready and consists of roughly 300 gigs of live audio recordings from 1989 to 2009. Ryan and I have been spending a lot of time thinking about and talking through the finer points of the Drive and we'd like to share some of those with you.
That's about it for now. We look forward to launching this project soon and hope you guys will enjoy it. And yes, to settle inevitable apprehensions, if you already contributed to the drive or are the taper of one or more sources on the drive, you will be given "credit" for the membership requirements. Like I said, we're still working out those details and just want to make sure that everyone stays active and involved and uses the NIN Drive as a trading tool to collect as many NIN sources as possible! Best, 12/10/2009 - Message from Dassarri about the drive:The Nine Inch Nails Drive began in late 2008 during the massive Lights in the Sky tour. The idea was to compile a single database with all available audio sources, each of the lowest generation and with the most information possible. This project is the effort of a multitude of collectors and tapers and results in a live NIN audio collection totalling over 200 gigabytes at this time. Once the project is in full swing, collectors will be able to send in blank hard drives with return postage and have a NIN Drive copied for them by a member. The only obligations new members have are to keep their drives up to date and accurate and contribute as many new shows as possible. Updates will occur periodically through bittorrented zip files. At this time, there is no concrete plan to include video sources on the same drive, though once the audio part of this collection is well on the way we will entertain adding a video section. Tapers are highly encouraged to "donate" their sources to the drive for archiving purposes. www.reflectinginthechrome.com and its accompanying forum will serve as the home for the Nine Inch Nails Drive. If you would like to contribute to the initial drives being compiled right now, please contact Dassarri or RyanJ through this site. We will soon have a list of all archived sources up on the website to which you can compare your own collections and hopefully make contributions. Organizers: Chris (Dassarri), and RyanJ.The NIN Drive is comprised of a 1 TB hard drive. This drive will hold all of the audio recordings that are known to the Nine Inch Nails live community. The goal of the NIN Drive is to have all of the sources in one known drive so that they are easily attainable to anyone who tapes/trades nin. All you have to do is sign up and get in the tree. Each vine of the tree will have a master drive and will be copied from one drive to another. Its very simple and it can be updated regularly. Over time more and more sources will be put on the drive. There will be one initial drive to start and right now we are in progress to grab as many sources as possible.
